Battling midfielder Thompson has epitomised the club’s reputation for developing players against the odds, cementing his role as a key player in Wycombe’s recent history after joining from Notts County in January 2018.

Having started his career at Meadow Lane, where he made 83 appearances over seven years, he initially joined the Chairboys on a six-month loan deal before being signed on a free transfer after promotion to League 1.

He established himself quickly as he made 45 appearances in all competitions in 2018/19 and was handed the Players’ Player of the Year Award, scoring a last-minute equaliser in a 3-2 win over Doncaster Rovers.

Featuring in each of the League 1 play-off matches in 2019/20, Thompson went on to play 33 matches in the Championship and remained an integral part of the side in 2021/22, scoring a memorable last-gasp winner in a seven-goal thriller against Morecambe in October 2021.
